Everywhere I look its grid, grids, grids; it is the print ‘du jour’. I rather like it; however, as per usual I am going to recommend you buy one item only. This season it is grids next season it will be who know what! Sponge Bob Square pants fighting Godzilla motifs for all we know. I guess the bonus is that once you have grown weary of your one grid item you can pass it on to your kids with a Koki pen to play noughts and crosses; so all round not such a bad once off purchase.
The official term is mercerised but the modern term is coated; it is the finish on a fabric that gives it sheen. It is not meant to look like leather but it reminds you of leather. I just LOVE the Witchery range of coated skinnies, as featured here – situated in Sandton City Woolworths; however Mango, Re-jeans Woolworths and Zara are also strong on this look.
!Caution Danger Ahead There is a dangerous amount of faux leather out there at the moment, pencil skirts, trousers, items with fake leather sleeves- you name it. I have two words, Cheap-Nasty!
Soft Shift Dresses
This is becoming a winter staple and have been popular for the last 3-4 years and for good reason, they are ultra comfortable. They make for excellent ‘training’ dresses, what I mean by this is, if you don’t normally wear dresses these are great to start off with, just team with boots and a cosy polo or vest underneath and away you go. Do have fun with them though, you don’t have to just buy in grey or black, they are available in a wide range of colours this year. Alternatively you could buy a funky pair of tights to make a statement.
My absolute favourite shop for hosiery is Blu-Symmetry in Parkhurst owned by the lovely Charmaine. She imports a wide range of top quality Italian hosiery and basics such as polo necks etc. The winter range is in; the only dilemma is what to buy as everything is simply gorgeous.
Blu-Symmetry, The Cobbles Centre, crn 4th Ave &11th Street, Parkhurst. Johannesburg.
Have a super week- hugs Janine
